The weather outside is frightfully cold, but you are warmed by a cup of cocoa and the prospect of decorating for the holiday season. Make memories with the whole family with this DIY candy cane craft for a candy cane ornament. While most ornaments spend their time collecting dust, this season you can create your very own ornament that doubles as a holiday treat.

This is a craft the whole family can do, so make sure to get enough supplies for everyone to share in the fun! These are the needed materials
- Box of candy canes (regular, or assorted flavors)
- Ribbon or string
- Hot glue/hot glue gun
- String
- Paper clip
- Glitter and glue stick (optional)
Step 1.
Lay the candy canes in a crisscross pattern, one over the other. Affix them together using hot glue and wait for it to dry. You may need to apply more glue to the gaps where the two candy canes intersect, in order to make the connection sturdy.

Step 2.
Tie ribbon or string around the candy canes where they intersect. Tie a bow on the side that will be facing outwards away from the tree.

Step 3.
Tie a piece of ribbon or string to the back of the ornament, leaving an exposed tail of three to four inches. Unfold a paper clip to make a “S” shape. Tie the end of the string to one of the ends of the paperclip.
Fold here, and twist open.
Now the ornament is ready to be hung on the tree! When it is time to take the tree down, you can undo the candy canes, unwrap them, and have a treat!
Bonus Step
Before hanging, lightly apply glue to the candy cane wrappers via a gluestick. Sprinkle glitter on top of the candy canes to add some extra flair to your ornament.
